It looks like we’ve bought out the world of our Kona fabrics. A lot of people are still waiting for backordered fabric, so let’s take 2 more weeks to get them done, okay? Hopefully that will get everyone’s fabric in and pieced up.

The new deadline is APRIL 21. Your blocks need to be postmarked by that day.

Still keep them coming. I will probably do the return packages in waves, so if you got yours to me on time don’t worry, you won’t have to wait forever to get blocks back. I plan on getting some out next week!

just what everyone needs

I think it really hit me this week that I really am not pregnant. There will be no baby this summer. For reals. I had my first period since my miscarriage. And then, during final savasana (relaxation) at yoga on Wednesday I just felt this wave of sadness. I would be feeling the baby move right now. I wouldn’t be able to lie on my back… Off and on I just feel sad.

Also, there has been a woman from church in the hospital, a funeral to cook a meal for, and a friend whose husband was in a really bad car accident while stationed in Honduras… just a lot happening this week.

But, that’s not what this post is supposed to be about. This is what it’s about:

My flannel wall!! Is that totally rad or what?! I can’t use enough exclaimation points!! It’s big enough to design a king size quilt!! How fun is that?!

Before I had the second piece of flannel stapled to the wall the kids had my buckets of fabric scraps (beautifully color coded I might add) empty and on the wall.

Brenna said, “This is like painting, but just with fabric.” She had a ball making her masterpiece, but had to enlist my help up there with the sun.

Here are my blockswap blocks so far:

I am LOVING this! The blocks on the bottom left look so fun together, but none of them is super-duper on its own, so I think I’ll keep them and make some more for a throw quilt and keep going with what I’ve been doing with those top 6 to give away. I love squash and robin’s egg blue! Yippy!

Also, Rebecca’s blocks all arrived in the mail yesterday. They are really lovely. Maggi’s got some under her belt, and so does April. Maritsa’s blocks are turning out cute too

So sorry for the loss of your anticipated child. It’s not easy to recover from even with a wonderful support group. I wish you gentle healing.

And on the blockswap front: I’ve been checking out sites and feel very excited about the creativity taking place “out there”. Each block is unique and the colors look delicious. It will be so much fun to get the surprise package.

As some others have said, I find the process so enjoyable that it’s hard to stop. Denyse’s design philosophy is fun and freeing. I probably wouldn’t have tried this on my own, so thanks for giving us the opportunity.

Oh, and I love your design wall, particularly what your little ones contributed. How will you ever be able to cover that up?

Thanks for posting about your miscarriage. You have given me the courage to do the same.

Your wall is just too fantastic for words, and your daughter has a great eye. Congrats!

The blocks look fun! Sorry to hear the sad stuff. Life as a RS Pres. and mother! I got my Denyse Schmidt fabric on Wed. Designed, cut, pieced and quilted it on Thurs and fri. Going to bind this weekend. It is a simple and easy quilt that I will teach as a beginning quilting class–but the fabric is fabulous. I want to eat it! Still waiting for my Kona to start my blocks –should be here on Sat or Mon so they say! Your flannel wall is great.

I guess those sad feeling are only normal, but I still hope you’ll feel better soon!

I’ve been there too (4 times ), and the sadness defies description. It does get better though. I’m so sorry you have to learn about this side of motherhood.

The flannel wall is great! I’ll have to try that one day! What a beautiful creation! Brenna has her Mother’s eye!!

The last two solids arrived yesterday. I’ve been thinking and thinking… Tuesday is officially Block Swap day - think I can do all 10? Hope so!

So sorry to hear about your miscarriage. I too have experienced it (twice), and it is depressing. Hang in there! It’s amazing how many women come out of the woodwork and tell you that they too have had to deal with such a loss.

Your flannel wall is fabulous!! I like that it doubles as a toy as well. Love your blocks, BTW.

Jessica has been feeling a bit under the weather lately, and was pretty tired today so I thought I’d do her a favor and gather up some of the blockswap progress she’s been sent so far…so without further ado, here they are!.

On a side note, the images that were previously on other posts were removed and combined in the aforementioned gallery.

Finally, for those who wanted to put a banner on their site, here’s a snippet you should be able to cut and paste.

Modifying Denyse’s patterns for Block Swap

First of all, Rebecca has been busy! They look great, wouldn’t ya say?

If you’re like me and waiting for the mail man to bring your fabric, then you’re probably brainstorming block design ideas. There are some of us who are ready to just take the plunge and do our own thing (like Rebecca up there). Others of us are beginners and need a pattern to follow to help us out. The Quilters Cache has a gazillion free block designs. The 10 inch block designs are what you need. (they will be 10 1/2 inches from raw edge to raw edge. 10 inches + 1/2 for seam allowances) They are all very traditional, but the size is right, and if you use the right fabric they’ll work for the block swap.

But, what if you want something a little more modern and funky–like some Drunk Love squares from Denyse Schmidt’s book? Well, all you need to do is adjust the percentage at which you enlarge the patterns from the back of the book and you’re in business! I put my math skills to the test (with a little refresher from my computer/math genius husband) and did some figuring. So…
